Matthew Taylor MD, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Clinical Genetics. Clinically, he directs the Adult Medical Genetics Clinic, which serves adult patients and families with genetic conditions.His research interests include: cardiomyopathies, intellectual disability, lysosomal storage diseases, pulmonary hypertension, and hypogonadism. Dr. Taylor’s group also participates in ongoing clinical trials and registries in the lysosomal storage disease field.
Dr. Taylor’s education activities include directing the Molecule to Medicine curriculum for year I medical students as well as participating in other courses and programs for medical, doctoral, and masters students. In 2012 he was invited to deliver a genetics course to medical students at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare.

Dr. Arthur S. Slutsky has been Vice-President Research, St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, and Director of Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine,University of Toronto since 2000. He is Professor of Medicine, Surgery and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto and a clinician scientist addressing issues in Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Slutsky’s research interests span the fields of acute lung injury, non-conventional ventilation, asthma, pathophysiology and lung transplantation. His basic research discoveries related to the mechanisms of ventilator-induced lung injury have had an impact on clinical practice and have played a role in reducing the mortality of patients with Acute Lung Injury and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. His recent work is helping to increase the number of donor lungs available for transplantation. He has published over 400 peer-reviewed papers, reviews and editorials, and he is the most highly cited scientist in the world in the field of mechanical ventilation. He has been honoured with election to the American Society of Clinical Investigation, and received the Recognition for Scientific Accomplishments Award from the American Thoracic Society. He serves on the Data & Safety Monitoring Board of the ARDS Clinical Network for the NIH. He has been an advisor to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Biomedical Research, and was the only non-American Chair of a FDA Advisory Panel (Respiratory and Anesthesiology Devices). Dr. Kuipers is Professor of Pediatrics, with a chair entitled ‘Development and Regulation of Liver and Intestinal Function’, and was Head of the Laboratory of Pediatrics of the Center for Liver Digestive and Metabolic Diseases at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) since 2000. From September 2008 onwards, he is Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences and member of the Board of Directors of the UMCG. His research program deals with regulation and development of lipid and cholesterol metabolism in liver and intestine and with metabolic disorders associated with obesity and ageing. He is one of the initiators of the Alliance of Healthy Ageing, a transatlantic network organization. He is (co-) author of >290 peer-reviewed publications and has supervised >20 PhD theses. |
